I’m feeling a little bit crazy. I just got a phone call from a dear friend from mine back home beginning with ’ did you hear?’ ‘no..what happened..’ the last phone call with similar conversation ended in news that a kid a year younger than me had committed suicide. And in to my not-too surprise it ended in equally bad news. A guy friend of mine from mid-childhood, got into a car accident this morning and passed away. My first instinct was to put on some Brand New from their your favorite weapon album.. because that’s all we’d listen to, driving around, going to Subway or whoever’s house.. mostly Kevin’s. I am dreading but also looking forward to going home and seeing everyone and all being together. The last time I was home and saw him was Thanksgiving and it had been a while since we’d spoken last but all was the same.. we reminisced about the ‘old’ days and he bought me a beer or a shot, I can’t remember, and I know he was pretty intoxicated but it doesn’t matter in this memory.. he still acted with the most generous kindness to me in not seeing me or hearing from me in months. the fact is that I was a crap friend to not of kept in better touch and now I’ll never see him again but our good memories all together when we were young and dumb, and just trying to figure out what to do with that night is what matters. Whatever crappy basketball game, shitty but-the-most-fun woods party, riding around in whoever’s car.. etc. I’m going to continue to listen to this 41 minutes 25 second long album and drink a shit keystone in the middle of the afternoon, which won’t change anything but he’d smile about it and i’m thankful he was one of the people in my adolecent years that i can look back on and smile about.
